It’s no secret jobs in the high tech industry are dominated by men.
For Asian American women, it can be especially difficult to get a job in technology, reports CCTV.
Buck Gee is a former Cisco executive who has been trying to help Asian Americans break the glass ceiling. He looked through documents filed by such companies as Google and Yahoo and found white women make up 11.7 percent of high tech professionals and 15 percent of executives. On the other hand, Asian American women comprise 11.3 percent of high tech professionals and only 4.2 percent of executives.
“A lot of Asian middle managers have not embraced what it takes to be an executive at the corporate companies. They believe working hard is enough to get you to the top, and near the top being an executive relies less on individual ability as more on the relationships,” Gee said.
“Nothing has been done about it. Even though people see it, they are not aware of the problem,” he said.
