Beyond Chron breaks down just how Lee rid himself of his potentially biggest opponent more than a year before the November 2015 mayoral election.
As we reported this weekend, State Senator Mark Leno has announced he will not run against Lee despite polls showing he could do quite well.
- The Mayor didn’t waste any time organizing a fundraising campaign event once he heard Leno was considering a run.
- He also has begun seeking endorsements early in an effort to head off Leno at the pass.
- Lee also brought into his tent Leno’s previous campaign team leaving the State Senator without a campaign manager.
That’s all pretty nifty maneuvering for a guy who said after being appointed by the Board of Supervisors in 2011 that he didn’t want the job permanently.
Other potential candidates could emerge including Tom Ammiano who is being termed out of the state legislature. But others don’t expect a formidable candidate to emerge. You can read why in Beyond Chron.
