City Pages: Family Fears Justice Delayed in Beating of Hmong American

Sao Lue VangThe family of Sao Lue Vang wants to know why no charges have been filed in the beating of the 64-year old more than three weeks after an arrest, reports City Pages.

Pepin County Sheriff Deputies in Minnesota arrested Kevin Elberg November 8, just three days after the beating. To date, no charges have been filed against Elberg and he remains free on bond.

Friends of Vang say he was hunting on public land with two friends when Elberg accused them of trespassing on his property. The friends say Elberg refused Vang’s apology and beat him unconscious. It was Elberg’s mother who would take Vang in her pick up truck to waiting friends and police.

“I need some answers,” said Vang’s daughter Mai Vang. “Not just me, but the whole Hmong community. We need some answers.”
