Filipino American Maureen Montagne will compete in the 2015 Miss USA pageant after being crowned Miss Arizona, reports the Inquirer.
Unlike many pageant contestants, Montagne has not been competing since she was a child. In fact she entered her first pageant just last year and placed first runner up in the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant.
The 21-year old Montagne is an interdisciplinary studies major at Arizona State University.
“She barely had any pageant experience, compared to her competitors who were veterans of beauty contests. We needed to work on perfecting the walk,” said Mutya ng national search committee head, fashion designer Renee Salud.
