ABC today announced the debut of the highly anticipated comedy, Fresh Off the Boat, reports Variety.
The show from celebrity chef and author Eddie Huang will debut February 4 at 8:30 that Wednesday right after The Middle. A second episode will then air the same night at 9:30 after the Emmy-winning and highly rated Modern Family.
The slots should give the premier high viewership, but then after that, the show is on its own.
Fresh Off the Boat will move to its permanent slot the following week on Tuesday at 8 p.m. That’s the same slot that was occupied by the short lived Selfie starring John Cho. The first year comedy died in that time slot. Selfie could have benefited from a strong lead in, but was forced to lead off ABC’s Tuesday night line up.
What could make Fresh Off the Boat’s fate different is the strong buzz factor. It has already received strong write ups from many critics. Yahoo named it one of the top new shows of the season.
