WEAU: Hmong American Students Rally, Demand Justice in Beating of Hunter

Sao Lue VangDozens of students rallied to demand justice in the beating of a Hmong American hunter , reports WEAU

Kevin Elsberg is charged with  aggravated battery and false imprisonment in the beating of Sau Lu Vang and is scheduled to appear in court on December 15.

The students are upset it took a month for Elsberg to be charged and  vowed to monitor the case closely.

Sheriff John Andrews of Peppin County says he does not believe race is a factor in the case.

The 64-year old Vang became separated from his group and wandered onto Elsberg’s property. Elsberg became angry and accused Vang of trespassing. WEAU reports Elsberg kneed Vang in the stomach and left him with life threatening injuries.

“If there is a bar fight police break it up and put those people in jail. So the police saw that Sao Lue Vang was beaten badly, and how come Elberg wasn’t put in jail,” wondered Mai Vang, a protest organizer.
