Thirteen restaurant workers who filed claims of unpaid wages, tips and unlawful retaliation have won a settlement with a Little Tokyo restaurant in Los Angeles.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Los Angeles represented the workers in their claim against Izakaya Fu-ga Restaurant.
“This was a hard fought case, but a case worth fighting in light of the positive changes the workers’ campaign was able to accomplish not just for those brave enough to be involved, but for the entire workforce,” said Laboni Hoq, Litigation Director at Advancing Justice – LA who represents the workers. “This case shows what can be accomplished when workers know their rights, organize themselves and stand together against employer intimidation and retaliation tactics.”
The workers will receive an undisclosed amount of compensation and also won policy changes addressing the labor violations the restaurant is accused of making.
The non-profit Restaurant Opportunities Center – Los Angeles (“ROC-LA”) also supported the workers in their claims. Izakaya Fu-ga was also accused of retaliating against the workers who raised the initial allegations.
