The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justin Lin will direct the next installment of Star Trek.
Lin was one of five directors in contention for the project. He became available when Matt Damon decided to return to the Bourne Legacy series. That put Lin’s version with Jeremy Renner on hold.
JJ Abrams who had directed the previous two installments of Star Trek stepped aside to take over the Star Wars franchise.
Lin has clearly become a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. He first gained notice with his independent film Better Luck Tomorrow. His career took off following the phenomenal success of Fast & Furious after Lin re-energized the franchise beginning with Fast & Furious, Tokyo Drift.
Lin is also involved in the CBS series Scorpion, one of the most successful new series of the fall season. It consistently ranks in the top 20 in the Nielsen ratings.
