The Independent: Bobby Jindal Shoring Up His Social Conservative Base

Bobby JindalThe man who wants to be the first Indian American president is reaching out to Christian evangelicals in Iowa to test the waters, reports The Independent.

Iowa is the first state in the nation to hold a vote in the presidential primaries. Jindal has said he’s “thinking and praying” about a possible run, despite polls among Republicans which find him near the back of a crowded field of potential candidates.

Jindal is betting that social conservatives will be attracted to his candidacy because of his opposition to same sex marriage and abortion and support for vouchers programs to subsidize tuition at religious schools.

Others say those positions will hurt him in his own Indian American community.

You can read about Jindal’s strategy to get to the White House in The Independent.
