Hate spewed outside. Prayers inside.
Hundreds attended a conference titled Stand With the Prophet Against Terror and Hate designed to counter stereotypes of Islam and Muslims in the United States.
Dozens outside protested the conference and screamed at conference attendees as they entered.
“I don’t support their ideology. I don’t support what they’re doing,” said one protestor.
Those inside made clear they don’t support Islamic extremists who shot and killed 12 people at the satiric publication Charlie Hebdo in Paris.
“Whoever does these acts of terrorism they don’t represent us and they sure as heck don’t represent me,” said a conference attendee.
Despite tensions, the conference and the protest were largely peaceful.
