Inquirer: Filipino American Vet Awarded Purple Heart 70 Years Later

Purple HeartJesse Baltazar is a veteran of three wars and survived the Bataan Death March.

Yet the service of this Filipino American was never recognized because his military records were loss.

70 years later, Baltazar is finally being recognized in a big way, reports the Inquirer.

Baltazar received the purple heart for injuries he sustained during World War II.

“I am very thankful. I waited 70 years for this,” Baltazar, now 94-years-old said.

He moved to the United States in 1948 and was the first native born Filipino to join the US Air Force.
