LA Times: Pacquiao-Mayweather Meet. Finalizing Fight Details

Manny PacquiaoA chance encounter at a basketball game may lead to the long awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The two met in a Miami hotel room after seeing each other at a Miami Heat game. The two were seen at the game exchanging phone numbers. Amazingly, it was the first time the two fighters had ever met. Hard to believe given how much both fighters mean to boxing. Guess boxing doesn’t hold events that bring their community together.

According to the Times report, Mayweather came to Pacquiao’s hotel suite. The talks centered around broadcast rights to the game. Both fighters are under contract with different cable networks.

Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz said after the meeting, he received confirmation that Showtime and HBO would each provide two broadcasters for the pay per view event and each would produce specials prior to the fight with Showtime doing a Mayweather story and HBO producing an hour special on Pacquiao.

You can read more about the chance encounter and how it came about in the Los Angeles Times.
