On Wednesday, February 4, the ABC Television Network will broadcast a two-episode premiere of a new situation comedy called “FRESH OFF THE BOAT.” FRESH OFF THE BOAT, inspired by chef/restaurateur Eddie Huang’s bestselling memoir of the same name, tells the story of hip-hop loving sixth grader Eddie and his immigrant family’s adventures moving into a mostly white neighborhood in Orlando, Florida in 1995.FRESH OFF THE BOAT stars Randall Park as Louis, Constance Wu as Jessica, Hudson Yang as Eddie, Forrest Wheeler as Emery, and Ian Chen as Evan. Eddie Huang provides the voice-over narration.
The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition and its member organizations have been advocating for greater diversity in network television for over 15 years. “Not since Margaret Cho’s ‘All-American Girl’ in 1995, has the public been able to see an Asian
American family at the center of a network TV show,” noted Coalition Co-Chair Daniel M. Mayeda. “FRESH OFF THE BOAT promises to be a fresh take on the universal story of a family trying to make it in a new environment. We urge you to watch this terrific new comedy.”
