ABS CBN: Filipino Americans Support Ethnic Studies in Arizona

Filipino Americans in San Franciso rally in support of ethnic studies in ArizonaSome 150 Filipino American students and teachers voiced their support for overturning the ban on ethnic studies in Arizona, reportsABS CBN.

They gathered in San Francisco in solidarity to those who support overturning the ban. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently heard arguments in a lawsuit trying to rescind the law.

“These are our brothers and sisters who we have been in solidarity with us for generations and it is part of our legacy and responsibility to be in solidarity with them,” said Dr. Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, an ethnic studies professor at San Francisco State University.

The passage of a ban in Arizona has sparked a backlash in other states.

Recently Indiana passed a bill in the Senate that would implement ethnic studies into the high school curriculum.

A bill in California would require ethnic studies be offered as an elective in high school.
