Anyone looking forward to seeing an all-Asian American starting backcourt in the NBA may have to wait awhile.
CBS reported last week that Bryon Scott was considering starting Jeremy Lin alongside Filipino American Jordan Clarkson.
Although Lin’s minutes have increased, he’s still doing it coming off the bench. Lin had one of his best defensive efforts of the season last night. He blocked three shots, two steals and pulled down 4 defensive rebounds.
The rookie Clarkson scored a career high 25 points in the Laker loss to the Memphis Grizzlies 97-90. The Lakers have no hope of making the playoffs this season and would lose their number 1 draft pick to the Phoenix Suns if they finish above the bottom five in the NBA. They currently have the fourth worst record in the entire league.
GMA is reporting Clarkson would like to represent the Philippines on its national team. His mother is from that country. He’ll need an exemption to play for Gilas Pilipinas. Under FIBA rules, a player must have at least dual citizenship by age 16 to represent the national team. Clarkson is 22.
