A judge granted a motion this afternoon to delay sentencing in the case of Nan-Hui Jo, a mother convicted of abducting her child from the father she said abused her.  The decision was tweeted by the  Asian Law Caucus. @aaaj_alc,

The decision in Yolo County, California is being applauded by Jo’s supporters who say it will give her new attorney more time to prepare a stronger case.

Jo was to be sentenced today after she was convicted in early March of abducting her daughter, Vitz Da. She had been living in South Korea for five years to escape the child’s abusive father, Jesse Carlton. She was arrested when she returned to the United States in Hawaii in July. Jo’s new legal team will now be lead by Dennis Riordan. Her new sentencing date is rescheduled for April 28 prolonging her long ordeal. Her supporters are hopeful for a better outcome later this month. The case has been followed closely by the Asian American community and those who work with domestic violence victims. A group of supporters using the Twitter handle @juhee_Kwon   tweeted that Jo was “carried out in shackles in her green striped jumpsuit. Meanwhile the DA was referring to the abuser (Jesse Carlton) as a ‘victim’ who is going through a lot.” He adds, “wtf.”
