Kotaku: Actor in Black Face Substitutes for Will Smith in Japan

Focus Japanese campaign with Sakana-kunThe Japanese arm of Warner Bros has a twisted sense of humor.

Some marketing genius there thought it would be a good idea on April Fool’s to put a Japanese actor in black face on posters to promote Will Smith’s movie Focus, reports Kotaku.

It seems for years people have been saying that Sakana-kun looks like Will, so why not dress him up like the actor and see if people notice.

Uhh, maybe you wouldn’t want to do that because that would be in bad taste?

Whether there’s a resemblance or not, WB shouldn’t have gone there. They certainly wouldn’t have tried it in the United States. Did the studio really think that in this day and age what it did in Japan would stay in Japan?

This stunt comes on the heels of the outrage some have expressed that Japanese-African American will be representing the country in the Miss Universe competition.
