The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles gets underway today through Sunday, reports the LA Daily News.
Films will represent a cross section of the best in cinema from India and well as the Indian diaspora around the world including the United States.
“IFFLA is one of those rare festivals which insists on a wide and eclectic and vibrant collection of Indian films, not just from India, but from across the globe,” says director Shlok Sharma whose film Haraamkhor is Thursday’s opening night’s gala selection. “It is a very important platform for us all to come together, meet and get to know the other side of the story.”
During the 13 years of this festival, organizers have seen an explosion of Indian talent across the globe.
“When I was a series regular on ‘Gideon’s Crossing’ and ‘Crossing Jordan,’ I think I was the only South Asian actor in a regular TV role,” says Ravi Kapoor. “Since then, it’s just exploded. It’s happened so fast, and it probably has something to do with what our film is exploring, which is the incredible drive to achieve that exists in our culture.”
