Chicago Tribune: Chop Chop Chinaman Vandalism Suspect Gets New Court Date

Chop Chop ChinamanJeannie Harrell, the woman that scrawled, “F— this hate crime s—,” It’s 2015,” with her lipstick on the window of  Chop-Chop Chinaman Restaurant had her court appearance rescheduled from April 8 to April 28, reports the Chicago Tribune.

In February, Harrell got tired of walking by Chop-Chop Chinaman restaurant in Boystown, IL because she felt the restaurant’s name was “aggressively racist,” so she took matters in her own hands. Harrell, who is half Japanese, took out her lipstick and wrote on the restaurant’s window.

A few days after her act of vandalism, the police charged her with criminal damage to property (under $300), a class A misdemeanor that could carry a $2,500 fine and up to one year in jail.

The owner of the restaurant, Larry Lee, tracked Harrell down through Twitter when she tweeted a photo about it.

Her court date was rescheduled due to a scheduling conflict with her lawyer.

You can read Harrell’s thoughts about why she did it and what Lee said about why he’s pursuing this case in the Chicago Tribune.
