India West: Indian American to Anchor National News Broadcast

Reena NinanReena Ninan has been named the anchor of ABC’s World News Now and America This Morning, reports India West.

The Indian American takes over the helm of the network’s overnight and early morning news alongside co-anchor TJ Holmes.

Neenan has been reporting on all ABC platforms since she joined the network in 2012 as a Washington-based correspondent. She has covered President Obama’s diplomatic trip to Asia and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the Middle East.

She joined ABC from Fox News where she worked in the Middle East and reported from Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Israel, Lebanon and India.

More recently she has filled in as anchor on ABC’s early morning newscasts.

According to a memo about her new assignment from ABC, “when she’s not working, Reena is an ambitious amateur chef and is currently trying to perfect her mother’s trademark fish curry. She speaks fluent Malayalam (the dialect from her family’s home state in Kerala in India) and studied Arabic and Hebrew. In her off-hours, she loves spending time with her four-year-old son, Jack; her two-and-a half-year-old daughter, Kate; and her husband, Kevin, who is a writer currently working on a book about China.”
