Christianity Daily: Asian American Faith Leaders to Converge on White House

Lighting the Community SummitA couple of hundred leaders from the Asian American and Pacific Islander Christian community will gather in Washington, DC next month and meet with White House officials, reports the Christianity Daily.

The 8th annual Lighting the Community Summit is hosted by Korean Churches of Community Development. Last year’s summit attracted 180 AAPI leaders representing 5 million constituents.

“Our voice and presence have been missing at the local and national front due to marginalization and our own disengagement,” said  Hyepin Im of KCCD.  “As a result, our communities have been undeserved and overlooked in services and resources … Now is the time to unite our voices, strengthen our influence, and shine our light on America.”

The summit will include a briefing from White House officials during which KCCD expects many of the community’s needs will be addressed.

The White House says it welcomes the opportunity.

“Please bring whatever issues you are facing to us, and we’d love to see how the government can help,”  said Paul Chang, the Regional Advisor for the White House Initiative on AAPI.

The Summit will be held May 18-20. You can learn more about the Summit in the Christianity Daily.
