An planned auction in New York Friday of art work and other mementos from the incarceration camps has been called off following a national outcry from Japanese Americans, reports the News Tribune.

“There is an essential discussion to be had about the sale of the historical items that are a legacy to man’s inhumanity to man, Miriam Tucker of Rago Arts & Auction Center said. We hope this controversy will be the beginning of a discourse on this issue.
Japanese Americans were elated with the news.
People all working together found their voice, and Rago responded,” said Barbara Takei who spearheaded the protest with her husband Yoshinori “Toso” Himel. “We are very pleased.”
