Facebook Chief Executive Officer Sheryl Sandberg is talking about the Ellen Pao trial while Kleiner Perkins is making an offer to Pao in hopes the whole thing will go away.
“So many women, not just in technology, across industries saw their own experience,” said Sandberg to Bloomberg’s Emily Chang about the gender discrimination trial. “You saw that. You saw women posting.”
“Can you see yourself in the trial?” asked Chang.
“Sure, I wrote a whole book about the experiences. But what’s happening is that we have systematic stereotypes of women and systematic biases for women. For men, likeability and success is correlated. You get more successful, more powerful, you’re better liked. For women, success and likability are negatively correlated. As the women gets more successful and more powerful, she is less liked.”
The comments were broadcast on the same day news surfaced that Kleiner Perkins will waive the nearly one million in legal costs it is demanding from Pao if she agrees not to appeal.
Quartz reports that Pao has until June 8 to make a decision. You can read about the settlement the firm offered to Pao back in November in Quartz.
