Celebrity chef Eddie Huang appeared on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher Friday and said it didn’t matter to him if people watch Fresh Off The Boat or not.
The author who’s memoir the show is based on has said in the past the show has veered so far from his real life story he doesn’t recognize his own life anymore.
He elaborated on that thought during his appearance with Maher.
“I don’t think it is helping us to perpetuate an artificial representation of Asian American lives and we should address it,” he said.
He criticized the program for telling white stories with yellow faces. He also said Asian Americans are being pressured to like the show and are scared to speak out.
