Raise The Roof Supports the Rebuilding of a School in the Philippines

Raise The Roof: Songs & Stories From Home fundraiser was an evening of music and comedy to help rebuild a school’s roof in the Philippines. It was severely damaged in 2013 by Typhoon Haiyan.

New York comedian Iliana Inocencio organized the fundraiser which she hosted with her brother, Ramy Inocencio of Bloomberg News.

The Altavas National School in Aklan, is located in the central province of the Philippines and “for miles the only school around where people can get an Altavas National Schooleducation,” says Ramy. It’s also the school that his father, Ramy Sr., attended.

 
The performers in order of appearance in the video below are Charla Laurista, Xavier Rice, Nicole Pasquale, AnneMarie Rosano, Jamie Leelo, Sabrina Jalees and Rebecca Vigi.

 

Roof damage from Altavas National School in Philippines after Typhoon HaiyanIlliana said their father is currently the president of the alumni association and the school “holds a dear place in his heart.” Students continue to attend classes in the undamaged parts of the school.

The fundraiser was well attended. The small venue made it much more up close and personal, making the evening all the more enjoyable.

The show raised over $600. With additional funds from their Go Fund me campaign, the total amount of raised funds is currently over $1600.
