Japanese PM Abe Reaches Out to Japanese Americans. Hints at Full Statement on Wartime Atrocities

Shinzo Abe with President ObamaJapanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reached out to the Japanese American community in Los Angeles Friday, reports the Los Angeles Times.

He visited the Go For Broke monument which is dedicated to Japanese Americans who fought in World War II.

He also stopped by the Japanese American National Museum and met with community members there.

Abe also said that Japan will be issuing a statement marking the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, according to the Japan News. The statement, Abe promised, would include remorse for Japan’s wartime past.

Whether the statement will include an apology to the comfort women who were forced into prostitution by the Japanese Imperial Army remains to be seen.
