WPCO: New Evidence Surfaces of Bullying in Suicide of Chinese American Student

Emilie OlsenAn investigation by WPCO TV has found new evidence that an Asian American who committed suicide was the victim of bullying despite the conclusions of a local school district.

Emilie Olsen is the China-born adopted daughter of the Olsen family in the Cincinnati area.

WCPO obtained emails from the Emilie’s father in January, August and September alerting the school to the bullying their daughter was facing. Yet four days after her death, the Fairfield City School District administrators released the following statement.

“There have been many rumors and misinformation about bullying with regard to this tragedy. The district has never had an indication – by self-report, or reports from others – that bullying has ever occurred.”

WPCO also found a fake Instagram account mocking Emilie and identifying the 13-year-old as gay and sexually promiscuous.

There have also been reports of fights that Emilie has been involved in, none of which were turned over to police by the school district when officers came to investigate her death.

WPCO showed the evidence to defense attorney Brad Fox. He commented on the school’s conclusion that Emilie was not bullied.

“To say there is no credible evidence when you’re sitting on a file that has concerning emails from a father about Instagram harassment, and some fight or something that took place six weeks before the death…is a little concerning for the school,” he said.

You can watch the full report and hear reaction from school administrators in the clip below.
