US Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA) seeks, for a third time, to re-introduce the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act, which would provide Filipino veterans of World War 2 and their families with assured benefits and compensation.

According to the Inquirer, Speier cites the “underpinning of fear of [Filipino] immigration” as the underlying cause of Congress’ continual rejection of the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act.

Out of the war veterans from over 60 allied countries in World War II, only the American Filipino community was unrightfully denied monetary compensation and other benefits.

“I’m not proud with what our government did after their sacrifices in Corregidor and Bataan. We owe it to them. We need to do the moral thing,” Speier said.
