Washington Post: Chinese Rally to Preserve Chinatown

Washington DC Chinatown

Gateway to Washington D.C.’s Chinatown

Struggling against growing gentrification, community members of Washington DC’s Chinatown fight desperately to fight eviction, preserve their homes and Museum Square, the heart of the community.

According to the Washington Post, the tenants of Museum Square(an affordable housing community) have banded together to purchase the building from Virginia-based Bush Companies, which set the price at $250 million. After the tenants successfully sued Bush Companies over its’ exceedingly high price, a pending counter-suit has been filed.

“Working-class housing is akin to the heart of our city. And our city can’t operate without its heart,”  spokesman David Meadows(of DC Councilmember Anita Bonds) said.
