Update: Disgraced California Senator Leland Yee Pleads Guilty to Racketeering

Leland Yee

Update: 12:06
The Los Angeles Times reports former State Senator Leland Yee has pleaded guilty to racketeering.

He faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines and possible restitution.
Yee had originally entered a not guilty plea last year. The reversal is believed to be part of a plea bargain for a lighter sentence.

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer warned Yee the sentence handed down October 21 could exceed what was agreed to in the plea bargain. Details of that agreement have not been released.

Complete details of today’s proceedings can be found in the Los Angeles Times.

Former California State Senator Leland Yee is expected to accept a plea bargain on racketeering charges during a hearing today in San Francisco, reports the Mercury News

He is scheduled to appear in court today at a change of plea hearing. He faces charges of political corruption, money laundering and gun trafficking.

Co-defendants Keith Jackson, Brandon Jackson and Marlon Sullivan are also on the court calendar to appear at the same hearing.

No details of the potential plea bargain have been released.

Yee was the target of an FBI undercover sting during which he is accused of agreeing to accept $60,000 from an FBI agent posing as a representative of an NFL team owner.

The scandal forced Yee to abandon his run for Secretary of State and has since ended his political career.

You can learn more details about the sting against Yee and the others including reputed gang leader Raymond Shrimp Boy Chow in the Mercury News.
