KTVU: Undercover Officers Raid Chinatown Store in Fireworks Bust

Chinatown fireworks raid

Undercover officers raided a store in San Francisco’s Chinatown suspected of selling illegal fireworks, reports KTVU.

Authorities say they seized 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks including a variety of rockets and barrel bombs.

The sound of firecrackers and fireworks can routinely be heard in the streets of San Francisco Chinatown in the days leading up to the Fourth of July.

The neighborhood is known as ground central in the Bay Area to get illegal fireworks.

Many of the sales take place in back alleys and car trunks.

But more sales are taking place out of legitimate storefront businesses.

It’s a trend that has caught police off guard.

“This is surprising news to me about selling from stores,” said Lieutenant Hoo.

The owner of the store on Grant Avenue where the raid took place made an astonishing admission to a reporter.

You can read about that on KTVU.
