KING: Seattle Chinatown Leader Shot Dead

Donnie Chin

The man who founded an emergency response team in Seattle’s International District has been shot dead while responding to an emergency, reports KING.

Police found Donnie Chin shot in his vehicle at 3 a.m. Thursday, but do not think he was the intended target.

“He gave his life for this community, literally now,” Leslie Morishita said. “I walk around the community now and it’s just a different place, it just looks different to me now because Donnie’s not here.”

“We always saw him as the medic who would always help with whatever situation arose,” Ron Chew said. “If there was a fire, he’d be helping evacuate folks from the fire. If there was somebody choking from eating food, he’d rush in there and help them out.”

Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

The shooting sparked a community meeting attended by his friends, familiy, community leaders and law enforcement.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
