Seattle Times: Police Conclude Chinatown Leader Donnie Chin Not Targeted in Shooting

Donnie ChinPolice in Seattle say Chinatown leader Donnie Chin was not targeted when he was shot dead last month, reports the Seattle Times.

Some in the International District had speculated his shooting  was connected to Chin’s opposition to hookah lounges or other issues he had supported.

Authorities say it was more likely he was caught in the crossfire or someone mistakenly identified him as an enemy combatant.

It’s believed Chin entered the area that night because shots had rang out.

He started the non-profit International District Emergency Center and served as the unofficial security force for Chinatown for 50 years.

A memorial for Chin will be held today at 2 at the Chong Wa Benevolent Association Playfield.

Police have talked to two men believed to have been at the shooting scene. You can read about that and the search for a good samaritan seen that night in the Seattle Times.
