Civil Rights Group Urges Extra Vigilance Following FBI Warning

FBI Bulletin on anti-Muslim Extremists

The Council on American Islamic Relations or CAIR is cautioning all Muslim community leaders nationwide to implement new safety measures in the wake of an FBI bulletin warning that militia extremists may be targeting Muslims.

The warning comes after the bulletin surfaced in a report by Public Intelligence, a group dedicated to the public’s right to access information. The bulletin which can be downloaded here states that militia extremists are “expanding their target sets to include Muslims and Islamic religious institutions in the United States.”

FBI sources quoted in the bulletin state that these extremists have been conducting their own intelligence in “diverse locations including Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, Montana, New York, North and South Carolina, Utah, and Texas.”
The extremists are focused on mosques or community centers and even individual Muslims.

The bulletin originally came out in May, but did not become public until yesterday.
