ABS CBN: Dancer Cheryl Burke Opens Up about Facing Child Abuse

Cheryl Burke

Two-time Dancing with the Stars champion Cheryl Burke recently opened up to a national television audience about the trauma she faced growing up as a child. She was sexually abused by a family friend at age 5.

She recounted her story in a recent TLC documentary Breaking the Silence..

“It really made me feel that I can speak out and I think I helped a few people along the way,” she said. “People saw a different side of me I don’t think they really knew about. It always helps to talk about stuff like that and it makes you a stronger person because of it.”

Burke confronted the issue at age six when she testified against the abuser when he was caught sexually abusing a 6-year-old boy.

Burke has been quite busy beyond just Dancing with the Stars. You can find out more about that in the clip below from ABS CBN.
