WPIX: Students Charged in Hazing Death of Michael Deng

Pi Delta Psi

37 students from Baruch College in New York have been charged with the hazing death of fraternity pledge Michael Deng, reports WPIX.

Prosecutors say Deng was blindfolded, made to carry backpacks full of sand and tackled. He hit his head, losing consciousness. The incident happened during an overnight trip to Tunkhannock Township in Pennsylvania in 2013.

Members of Pi Delta Psi, an Asian American cultural fraternity, allegedly waited hours before calling for help. Five students have been charged with homicide and 32 were charged with hazing.

The fraternity has since been banned by Baruch College.

  1. RE: Students charged in hazing death of Michael Deng: Condolences to the Deng family for their loss. I care nothing for this fraternity but it’s a joke that they will be charged. If they were a bunch of white kids the DA wouldn’t give it a thought about not charging them.

  2. All of them should be charged and hopefully convicted. They were responsible for brutally contributing to someone's death. That they think they should be allowed to continue to live their lives without any consequences for their heinous actions highlights their arrogance and callous dispositions. Being rich/middle class/whatever Asian American boys does not excuse them of their behavior.
