Do you believe global warming is a threat to our country?
Do you believe Asian Americans deserve a voice in the way this country is run?
Regardless how you feel about those issues, if you have an opinion, then you need to register to vote. There’s no better day to do it than today, National Voter Registration Day.
Already registered? Then take the pledge to vote.
Chances are many of you reading this are not registered to vote or didn’t take the time to vote in the last election.
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders rank among the lowest voter registration rates in the country, just 56% for Asian Americans, while the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) rate is 58%. Compare that to Whites and African Americans, both at 73%.
You wonder why sometimes the needs of Asian Americans are ignored in this country? Lack of voting strength is a major one.
2016 is a presidential year. Your participation in the voting process helps ensure Asian Americans are heard. Go ahead, continue to complain about various issues on Facebook or Twitter. But if you want to effect change, rather than screaming in an echo chamber, then you need to vote.
As the AAPI population grows, the community’s poltical strength must grow with it.
Visit the online tool, by Rock the Vote, to learn how to register today. It’s available in various languages including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bengali, Hindi, Thai, Urdu, and Ilocano.
