A man described as homeless has been arrested in a beating of an 83-year-old man in Santa Ana, California, reports NBC Southern California.
Video of the incident shows Tuyen Nguyen being punched and kicked by his attacker for no apparent reason. The force of the blows knocked Nguyen to the ground. Earlier reports from KTLA say Nguyen was on his way to buy coffee and a newspaper as he did every morning. Nguyen knew his attacker, but did not know why he did it.
“He’s in a lot of pain right now, physically,” his daughter, Julie Nguyen said. “And for us it’s a mental anguish, mental pain. It’s a lot.”
Police arrested Demarrea Chante Barnes, 29, in Anaheim.
They say he left the scene of the crime, then later returned.
