Twincities.com: FBI Warns of Potential Scam Targeting Hmong Americans

Hmongs

The FBI is investigating a possible new land scam targeting the Hmong American community, reports TwinCities.com.

A company which calls itself Hmong Tebchaws which translate to Hmong Country is telling people the United Nations will soon partition land in Southeast Asia for a new Hmong country.

We wanted to be sure we notified the Hmong community … to make them aware there is a potential fraud situation involving land sales in the country of Laos,” said Kyle Loven, chief counsel for the FBI’s Minneapolis division.

No charges have been filed in the case. FBI investigators met with Hmong leaders in St. Paul to warn them of the potential scheme.

“They want the Hmong community to (share) the information to stop the scam … and urged victims to come forward,” said ChuPeng Lee, Lao Family Community board president, who attended the meeting.
