Pixar’s new feature length film The Good Dinosaur which opened this holiday weekend has the heart of three F’s–family, fear and the forces of nature.
The film features splendid computer animated scenery with much of the setting inspired by Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park.
I had a chance to watch it in 3-D last night. If you’re going to see The Good Dinosaur, it’s worth the three extra bucks or so to see it in 3-D.

More importantly, The Good Dinosaur, directed by Korean American director Peter Sohn, 38, is about a young dinosaur’s quest to reunite with his family. Along with him on his journey, is a young orphaned boy named Spot. The relationship they form and the commonalities they discover is the film’s focal point.
Spot gives Arlo the bravery he lacks and sorely must discover. Fear is the one element holding Arlo back from maturing into a grown up.
The Good Dinosaur is a nice warm family film. It lacks the emotional payoff and depth of Pixar mega hits such as Up ,Toy Story and Inside Out.
Sohn stepped in to save the dying movie in 2013. It was then the studio chose to push back the scheduled opening from 2014 to give Sohn a chance to rework it. It is Sohn’s first feature film.
