WABC: Police Seek Man Who Burned Hindu Flags in Queens

Hindu flags burned

Neighbors say they fear for their safety after an unidentified man burned some 40 religious Hindu flags in front of homes in Queens, reports WABC.

Police released dark and grainy video of the incident and hope somebody may be able to identify him.

It happened at around 1 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

The incident has drawn the attention of Hindus nationwide.

“It was shocking for the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful US Hindu community numbering about three million; who had made lot of contributions to the nation and society; to receive such signals of hatred and anger,” said Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism out of Nevada.

Zed says Hinduism and other world religions should be taught in schools so that the world can have a better understanding of each other. He also says law enforcement should go through cultural competency training.

You can hear reaction from neighbors to the incident in Queens in the report below from WABC.
