NBC Bay Area: Police Question Indian American Who Asked about Buying Ammunition

Sim Sangha

Police officers in Fremont, CA visited the home of a Indian American woman who had talked to a clerk at Dick’s Sporting Goods about purchasing ammunition, reports NBC Bay Area.

Sim Sangha is a firearms instructor who is also hoping to join the Los Angeles Police Department.

“I don’t know if it’s [because of] my skin color or that I’m Indian,” said Sangha. “I’m not a Muslim, but even if I were, that’s no reason to call police to my home, instantly.”

Sangha decided not to purchase the ammunition and feels she has been singled out because of her race.

Fremont Police have apologized, but also say it is their duty to investigate anything residents report as “suspicious.”
