A study from Baylor University has concluded Whites from elite universities stereotype Asian Americans as “cold but competent,” reported Newswise.
The study published in Social Psychology Quarterly polled 898 participants from 27 prestigious universities across the country.
It found many of those surveyed considered Asian Americans more intelligent and hard-working and were more likely to believe Blacks and Latinos need to work harder.
“That kind of statement is about whether responsibility for racial differences in upward mobility is a result of natural tendencies — as opposed to structural inequities in educational opportunity, access to good health care, jobs and other areas,” said Jerry Park, an associate professor of sociology at Baylor.
