Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins Pulls Plug on Chinese New Year T-Shirts

posted by Randall

DeMarcus CousinsApparently there’s no room for #Chinese New Years celebrations when it falls on Black History Month.

At least according to the Sacramento King’s All Star Center, DeMarcus Cousins.

Deadspin reports that Cousins had a heated exchange with Kings management. When it was over, Kings personnel began removing Chinese New Year t-shirts that were waiting for fans at their seats.

Cousins thought such a celebration was insensitive on the first night of Black History Month.

No one is denying the significance of Black history Month, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Chinese New Year.

No word on whether the t-shirts will be given away on a later date.

Cousins has a reputation around the league of being immature and for his temper.

It’s unfortunate given his huge God-given talent.

Re: King’s DeMarcus Cousins pulls plug on Chinese New Year T-shirt: Please be responsible and include all the information – it was because they had a monkey on them. While this holds significance with those who celebrate Lunar New Year, it also has a very negative connotation in the US as a slur against Black people.

I think Lunar New Year should be celebrated too but whoever greenlit that design for a sport that is overwhelmingly popular in the Black community should be fired.

RE: King’s DeMarcus Cousins pulls plug on Chinese New Year t-shirts: You do know it’s the Year of the Monkey in the Lunar New Year calendar right? Perhaps cousins needs to educate himself on somethings beside the African-American cultures in the U.S.
