Huge Crowds Watch San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade

Chinese New Year Parade SF 2016

Crowds lined up as many as 20 people deep gathered for San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade, reports SF Gate.

It’s the largest held outside of Asia and has been named one of the top 10 parades in the world by the International Festival and Events Association.

Parade organizers estimated the crowd would swell to 750,000 people. Many lined up for hours to get a prime location. For some it has become a family tradition.

“We’ve been set up since about 2:30 p.m.,” Linda Tam said at the start of the parade. “My son and many other of the families’ children are in the parade.”

The big highlight is the 270-foot-long dragon and the seemingly endless string of firecrackers set off to ward off evil spirits.
