Former California State Senator Leland Yee this morning was sentenced to five years in state prison for his role in a corruption case, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Democrat who represented San Francisco admitting to trading political favors for campaign contributions in a plea deal.

“That in the court’s view is very serious violation of trust,” Judge Charles Breyer said to Yee. “Votes are not for sale. Positions are not for sale. And your conduct … indicating that it was for sale was a violation of trust.”

Yee acknowledged he let his family and supporters down.

“That will always weigh on me, and that will always haunt me for the rest of my life,” he said.

Yee will also pay a $20,000 fine.
