Muslims and women of color were the targets of vandals who struck at the Ethnic Studies Department at the University of California, Riverside, reports
CBS LA.
Authorities say vandals broke into the department to steal and deface four photos of women of color, as well as tearing down the Palestinian flag and rummaging through mailboxes.
The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
“Women of color have been specifically targeted by these parties, and the available information makes it abundantly clear that these acts of violence are significantly motivated by anti-Muslim and Islamophobic sentiment and/or ideology,” wrote Department chair Dylan Rodriguez on his Facebook page.
