Preliminary results have been released of the first national survey this campaign season of Asian American voters.
The survey is being conducted by APIAVote, Asian Americans Advancing Justice|AAJC, and AAPI Data. Multi-lingual polling began last week and will run through mid-May. So far 111 responses have been collected from New York State. The groups have decided to release that data as a preview of what’s to come.
Due to the relatively low number of responses so far, the margin of error is extremely high-about 10%. According to the survey, the top five issues most important to those Asian Americans surveyed are gun control, health care, jobs/economy, social security and education. Due to the margin of error, it cannot be concluded with a high level of certainty that gun control ranked as the highest concern.
The survey also asked voters their impressions of the presidential candidates. Among Asian American voters, Hillary Clinton had the highest favorable rating 67%. Donald Trump had the highest unfavorable rating with 51%.
