Sulekha Ramayya gave the Valedictorian speech at the University of Southern Californian before 6500 graduates and a crowd of 40,000.
The Indian American student has dedicated herself to finding a cure for malaria.
The biomedical engineering major also has a minor in business finance and economics.
“There remains much change to be accomplished,” said Ramayya.”As an Indian female engineer entering the field of finance I feel the presence of the glass ceiling and the lesser known bamboo ceiling. The fact that women still earn 76 percent of men is still 100 percent confusing to me. Hollywood thinks race problems are a binary when in reality its more than just Black and White. The basics of food, shelter and water are still considered privileges in most of the world.

At Clark University in Massachusetts, first year student Cory Bisbee has been elected student body president. According to fellow student, Bisbee is a Korean adoptee who served as president of the Korean Student Association at Clark. He replaces another Korean American, Kevin Kim.
At Ohio University in Athens, Charles J. Ping, president emeritus, will honor longtime university librarian Hwa-Wei Lee. Lee served as librarian from 1978-1999,and was honored with the prestigious Melvil Dewey Medal from the American Library Association (ALA) in 2015. His biography The Sage in the Cathedral of Books will be released Thursday, reported the Athens News.
