Koh who currently sits on the federal bench out of San Jose is scheduled to be questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee today, five months after President Obama nominated her.
“If Lucy Koh can’t be confirmed, then the state of our partisan political ‘freeze’ is really quite disheartening,” said Rory Little, a law professor at UC Hastings College of the Law. “I’ve known Lucy for 20 years. She is immensely well qualified for the job.”
Koh has gained a reputation for her decisions on intellectual property, a big issue in Silicon Valley and the technology field. It’s not known if Koh’s nomination will be blocked by Republicans who want to wait to see if a Republican is elected president.
Also facing a confirmation hearing today is Florence Pan who was nominated by the President for the district court in Washington, D.C.
“Judge Lucy Koh and Judge Florence Pan are two highly qualified nominees,” Jin Y. Hwang, president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, said in a statement. “Both are experienced and fair jurists.”
